A Total Disgrace

By: Roy Douglas Malonson, Publisher of African-American News & Issues & Author of column series We MUST UnderstandIt is not often that I challenge the faithful and loyal readers of African-American News&Issues at an attempt to prove a point to our audience. However in this case, I have chosen to make an exception. The challenge that I would like to present is for our readers to simply Google one phrase: “the most disrespected president in US history”. It really doesn’t matter what preference of search engine you use either. Because I’m almost certain that the results will remain the same. First and foremost, President Barack President Barack Obama is photographed during a presidential portrait sitting for an official photo in the Oval Office, Dec. 6, 2012. (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)Obama’s is the name that you will find. Various articles, instances and examples of the type of disrespect that he and his family have experienced over the course of his eight-year administration will blow your mind. Now, some people may wonder and others will simply never understand how it is that a man and family that literally brought so much grace, dignity and poise to the White House, could be placed in such a seat of disgrace. While many may not understand, I certainly do! We MUST Understand that this is a mindset that is welcomed amongst our society, and it hasn’t just gotten this way either. It is a factor that we Africans living in America have experienced since the inception of this nation. To that regard, I always say that there is just Something about this Blackness that is Seriously Misunderstood? It really does not matter who you are, what type of class, style, intelligence or status you have – if you belong to the African-American race; there will always be some form of prejudicial element imposed on you. Although some may beg to differ, I just believe in calling, “a spade a spade” and “an ace an ace”. Simple as that! We MUST Understand that any time a person is the leader, president or accountable for a large following that there will always be some level of disrespect at some point. This aspect comes along with the territory and is something that really can go without being stated. Because the Chief is the one out front and everyone can see him and so he will always be singled out as a target, no matter the situation. However, to intentionally humiliate and scorn a president all because of the color of his skin is a TOTAL DISGRACE. Throughout his administration, President Barack Obama and his family were constantly on public display in various forms of mockery. There were endless cartoons and depictions of President Obama featured as a Muslim and his family as monkeys and apes, along with obscene pictorials and representations. A variety of drawings featuring President Obama with a noose hung around his neck flooded internet on multiple occasions. Even the disrespect that the current president imposed on him in regards to his birth certificate and other vicious claims, only adds to further distasteful actions against the former president. World leaders even joined in on the mocking game by constantly showing their disrespect for his seat in the Oval Office. It has also been recorded in many instances how American political leaders under the former President blatantly disregarded and circumvented his authority. While there are many examples of this type of conduct, I can think of a couple of political affiliates who just completely had no problem showing their hatred towards President Obama. House Speaker John Boehner took it upon himself to offer an invitation to Prime Minister Netanyahu to speak at a joint meeting with Congress about Iran, without first consulting with the former president. The former Mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani made an extremely racist and unwarranted comment against President Obama with no regard. He said,“…I know this is a horrible thing to say, but I do not believe that the president loves America.” He continued, “He doesn’t love you. And he doesn’t love me. He wasn’t brought up the way you were brought up and I was brought up through love of this country.” This was in reference to the President rearing by his parents. The list is endless in regards to the many forms of disrespect that President Obama was confronted with throughout his eight-year stint in the White House. But here we are in 2017 operating under a President who has completely degraded the office of presidency and all that it stands for – and it just appears that it is business as usual. The irony of it all, is the simple fact that many of us sat and watched President Obama endure eight long, tiresome years of continual disrespect. And now we are confronted with an administration that disrespects the executive authority given to him, with no shame or regard. He feel that he is entitled to act in the manner that he wants, treat and say anything to anyone he wants and that there will be no repercussions for his actions. The sad reality of it all is that, even though we are witnessing live and in living color; this TOTAL DISGRACE right before our very eyes, our dear old POTUS just may get away with it. Concluding, I would like to share a quote I saw which I feel represents the President very well… American Poet, Michael R. Burch posed a question in which anyone familiar with the operations of President Trump would know is a justifiable one. He said, “Trump claims he’d be the “best jobs president that God ever created.” But isn’t his claim to fame firing people?” Someone may look at this as disrespect to the president, but no matter how you slice it, it is very true indeed. If you don’t believe me, reach out to his latest example in the person of the former FBI Director, James Comey.

Obama’s is the name that you will find.
