BGIS National Heroes Series A Hit

Barbados,

“A good concept”. “Informative and well-produced”. These were some of the comments posted on social media sites in relation to Back from the Past, a video series conceptualised by the Social Media Team of the Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS).

Launched on Youtube on April 14, the five-part series offers the public a glimpse into the time periods in which National Heroes the Right Excellent Bussa, Sarah Ann Gill, Charles Duncan O’Neal, Samuel Jackman Prescod and Clement Payne lived.

Web Content Manager (Ag.), Esther Jones, who also directed the series, described the feedback so far as “encouraging”.

“To date, the series has netted almost 1,500 views on Youtube, and it has been shared scores of times on Facebook and other social media. We at the BGIS are very encouraged by this, and we are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate these iconic persons in a fresh, creative way,” Ms. Jones stated.

In addition, she revealed that the stories of the remaining five National Heroes, the Right Excellent Sir Hugh Springer, Errol Walton Barrow, Sir Frank Walcott, Sir Garfield Sobers and Sir Grantley Adams would be explored in television promos, to air on CBC TV on National Heroes Day, tomorrow, Tuesday, April 28.

Persons wishing to view the Back From the Past series may do so on the BGIS’ Youtube channel, thebgis; on the website www.gisbarbados.gov.bb; or on the Facebook page gisbarbados. (KH/BGIS)
