Black America Should Care More About Haiti

The island of Haiti had a bittersweet last week. The sweet part of the week began on the evening of Oct. 3, when U.S. District Judge Edward Chen blocked the Trump Administration’s efforts to end Temporary Protected Status for Haitians and hundreds of thousands of other immigrants from countries whose residents are people of color. The U.S. government grants TPS to people from countries where there are safety and economic concerns. Haitians received TPS after the devastating 2010 earthquake that killed 300,000 people. CARICOM Ready To Provide Assistance To Earthquake Ravaged Haiti

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) says it stands ready to provide assistance to Haiti, one of its 15-member countries that hit by a number of earthquakes resulting in the deaths of 17 people and injury to more than 300 others. Continue reading

Seven months later, the government still maintains the obligation to use the national currency.

As if to show that it was determined to enforce the decree of March 1, the government had invited: “all citizens to denounce and file a complaint against any individual or company claiming payment in foreign currency or its equivalent in gourde following commercial transactions or purchase of goods or services “.

The Haitian Minister of Economy and Finance, Ronald G. Decembre, is stopping payments by checks to bank transfer.

Going back to bank transfer payment method will help of reducing government expense and facilitate financial transactions. The payment by transfer solves a set of problems including buying paper, cost of printing checks, cost of overtime, buying printers and ink, etc. “, explained Ronald G. The European Union (EU), ready to provide assistance to the victims of the earthquake of October, 6, 2018.

In a statement, EU officials have made known that assistance will be granted according to the needs that will be identified and required by the Haitian Civil Protection Directorate. The EU renews its commitment to stand with the Haitian authorities to complete national efforts following this natural disaster. Continue reading

The first edition of the Gede Festival, will take place from October 25 to November 3, 2018 in Haiti.

Conferences, concerts, workshops, dances, parade of bands of rara, visit to the cemetery of Port-au-Prince, exhibition and days of demonstration and tasting, among others, are planned as part of this cultural event which will take place in two cities of the country: Port-au-Prince and Jacmel, but will also honor another state in the United States, New Orleans, which in 2018 celebrates 300 years since its founding.
