STOP THE ABUSE OF PARLIAMENT TIME

2015.05.09. Port of Spain. The Alliance of Independents notes with great displeasure, the continued abuse of Parliamentary time, where the Parliament has been transformed into what can be perceived as an extension of the political field. The country has had to withstand the filing of motion after motion of no confidence, and now censure and suspension of the Leader of the Opposition, based on what has been termed “emailgate,” whilst the actual investigation is still ongoing. The country has been subjected to its legitimate business being side lined to hear of the ineptitude of either side. Why such disregard for the conduct of the people’s legitimate business? This is not to negate the laying of responsibility for the actions of any Parliamentarian, however, once such actions have been placed in front of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, one would expect that the TTPS would be afforded the opportunity to conduct their investigation to completion, whilst the house continued to undertake the conduct of the business of the People. The Alliance of Independents views the recent deterioration of the standard of Parliamentary discourse as unfortunate, and projects a dysfunctional example to the citizenry. The people of Trinidad and Tobago are developing ‘motion sickness’, having had to undergo motion after motion, and are growing increasingly weary of what continues to masquerade as the conduct of a legitimate Parliament.
