Why You Must See The Queen Of Katwe

Some movies you walk into ready to be entertained and some movies you walk out of changed. Disney’s Queen of Katwe is one of those movies. Don’t get me wrong, the film directed by Mira Nair and starring Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, David Oyelowo and Madina Nalwanga has entertainment by the loads you will find yourself “snapping” and tapping your feet along with awing at the beauty of the film shot in the streets of Uganda which while impoverished still burst with as many colors as the vibrant people do. But beyond being entertained the Queen of Katwe will reach in and grab your heart and will simply not let go. The film is more like an experience introducing you to an Africa and it’s people rarely seen on film and stirring something inside you that will dare you to dream big. The film is ultimately about chess but you will find yourself balling at various points in the movie. Not the kind of balling involving a sport unless you count going through a complete box of tissue during the films emotional moments as a sport.
