ATLANTA, Ga. (October 10, 2018) – Dawnel Collymore (Benedict) was named Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Female Runner of the Week, while Trey Simons (Morehouse) earned Male Runner of the Week, released by the league office on Wednesday.
Female Runner of the Week – Dawnel Collymore, Benedict
Dawnell Colleymore ran exceptionally well in her debut for Benedict, finishing third overall with a lifetime-best time of 19:11 in the 5K. This is the fastest women’s 5K time by a Benedict runner during coach Frank Hyland’s tenure. The Benedict College women’s cross country team finished 6th out of 14 teams at the Great American Cross Country Festival HBCU Challenge on Saturday.
Male Runner of the Week – Trey Simons, Morehouse
Simons helped Morehouse to win the Robert Shumake HBCU Challege Saturday morning in Cary, N.C. by running a season personal best of 24:57.4 in the men’s 8K. The Maroon Tigers finished first out of 16 schools and 104 runners. Morehouse scored 93 points beating out Florida Atlantic with 104, NC A&T with 113, Benedict with 198 and St. Augustine’s with 262 for the victory.
